What you’re seeing:

A kinect is looking at a sandbox, it takes in the height of the dirt piles in relation to each other and projects a corresponding landscape to it.  When you dig deep, it fills with blue because of water, the deeper it is, the darker the water is.  If you stick a hole into a mountain and turn it into a volcano lava starts coming out.  It does this all in real time so the landscape changes as you play around with it.  It’s like real life minecraft.  Awesome?  Damn. Straight.
